Elvis’ debut album, Elvis Presley (LPM-1254), was originally released with a blue label with silver print. RCA originally used this blue label to designate a country music 45, but gave that approach up part way through 1956.
RCA Canada used this grey label with silver print (also known as charcoal with silver print) from mid 1956 through to early 1959. Some copies of Elvis’ debut album, Elvis Presley (LPM-1254), were issued on this label after the switch from the blue and silver label.
Using the same layout as the blue & silver and the and grey & silver labels, this maroon & silver label a reference to “Original Cast Series” was added between the text “RCA Victor” and the Nipper logo. Elvis’ Christamas Album (LOC 1035) was the only Elvis album to be issued on this label. First pressings of Elvis’ Christmas album appear on this label with the cat # LOC 1035. It was them re-issued on the grey & silver label as LPM-1951, and then again later on the Black Dog On Top label.

These are the original Canadian black dog-on-top labels for the first pressing of the mono and mono/stereo versions of the following albums (see though notes about LPM-1951 and LPM-1990). The only exception is LSP/LPM-3758 which also shows “Dynagroove”. All are silver print.
Nearly identical to the mono “black with dog on top” (DOT) labels, these early RCA stereo LPs would carry the monikier “Living Stereo” until the “Living” portion would be dropped by 1968 in time with the switch to orange labels. Released in April 1960, Elvis Is Back! is Elvis’ first album both recorded and released in stereo (stereo reissues of previous mono albums weren’t released until 1962 – see preceding label). With the exception of “How Great Thou Art” (LSP-3758), which also shows “Dynagroove”, all new Elvis albums would be available in both. All are silver print.
(see though notes about LPM-1951 and LPM-1990).
(see though notes about LPM-1951 and LPM-1990).
Starting in 1962 many of the previous albums that were recorded in mono were reissued with a fake stereo effect. With the same basic layout as the mono and Living Stereo Black Dog on Top labels the “Stereo Electronically Reprocessed” reisssues can be easily identified by the “Electronically Reprocessed” text that appears below the staggered “STEREO” near the bottom of the label.
