Canadian Elvis 78 Label Guide
B&W Promo Label – 1955 – 1959
Charcoal & Silver Label – 1955 – 1958
Black Dog On Top Label – 1959
Promos for Elvis’ Canadian 78s were released as white label “Record Pevue” discs.
RCA Canada released 78 singles on a matte black / charcoal label with silver print. The first 25 Elvis singles released in Canada on 78 were on this label. There are no known blue and silver label Canadian Elvis 78s. (See the 45, EP, and LP label guides for examples of the blue and silver label). In 1959 RCA Canada switched to the black with Dog On Top (DOT) label.
RCA Canada switched to the black label with the Dog On Top just before phasing out 78s. This label is nearly identical to US RCA labels. Only Elvis’ last two Canadian singles, A Fool Such As I and A Big Hunk O’ Love – both from 1959, used this label.
